Critical success factors influencing the implementation of Public projects in kajiado county, Kenya

Abstract

Due to many circumstances, both within and outside counties' purview, public projects have been plagued by delays and failed execution. This has caused a significant loss of cash allocated to fund several of these public projects, causing them to stall. This study therefore assessed the crucial success factors impacting the implementation of public projects in Kenya's Kajiado County. Therefore, this was extrapolated from several factors that influence whether an implementation is effective. This study was guided by various specific objectives, such as examining how stakeholder participation influences the implementation of public projects in Kajiado County, investigating how competence of a project manager influences the implementation of public projects in Kajiado County, establishing how funding influences the implementation of public projects in Kajiado County, as well as establishing how monitoring and evaluation influences the implementation of public projects in Kajiado County. The administration of public projects in Kajiado County, among other stakeholders, found the study to be of major importance. The study used stakeholder theory, the change management iceberg theory, and the resource dependency theory in literature review. The study used a descriptive research design. The study's target population was the County chief officers and their directors in various departments responsible for delivering public projects. The study used census sampling as the sampling method. Using the research questionnaire allowed for the collection of data. Diagnostic test was carried out to test for normality, multicollinearity, and linearity tests. The research relationship between dependent and independent variables was determined using a regression model with the help of SPSS. The information about the data was presented inform of tables with means and standard deviation. The findings indicated stakeholder’s participation has a negative and insignificant influence on implementation of public projects in Kajiado County. Competence of a project manager had a positive and significant effect on the implementation of public projects. Funding had a positive but insignificant influence on implementation of public projects in Kajiado County as well as monitoring and evaluation had a positive and significant influence on implementation of public projects in Kajiado County.
